The Beginning of Waves

Waves started with a simple, deeply personal need: a mother trying to find someone who could do better for her autistic son.

When your child is distressed, the world around you is quick to offer unsolicited advice. Society often insists that "stricter discipline," harsher consequences, or firmer control are the only answers. When you’re swimming against that tide, the outside noise can easily make you doubt your own instincts.

Lydia knew there had to be another way. She founded Waves out of a vital need to find a provider who would actually stop, listen, and take the time to understand what her son was trying to communicate to the world.

As both a neurodivergent parent and a practitioner, Lydia wanted - and knew families deserved - so much more than traditional, compliance-driven approaches. She created Waves as a safe haven where parents and carers can bring their loved ones without fear of judgment, supported by practitioners who bring a rare combination of clinical skill, deep neuroaffirming insight, and lived empathy.

Driven by Our Mission

Everything we do at Waves flows directly from our core mission: Shared journeys. Genuine understanding. Meaningful connection.

Shared Journeys: We don't stand at a distance giving orders or handing down rigid plans. We walk beside you through the calm, the chaos, and everything in between. Because our team brings lived experience, we know the terrain of burnout and dysregulation firsthand, and we navigate it together as equal partners.

Genuine Understanding: We look beyond the surface of challenging behaviour to see the human being underneath. We don't ask someone to mask or hide who they are to make others comfortable; instead, we take the time to decode unmet needs, adapt environments, and honor every form of communication.

Meaningful Connection: Real growth and safety only happen when trust comes first. We prioritize co-regulation over compliance and relationship over rules, building a secure foundation where participants, families, and practitioners truly feel seen, heard, and supported.

We’ve walked a path just alongside yours every day. We know the noise, we know the exhaustion, and we are here to ensure you never have to navigate things alone.
