Registered Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner

Not a registered PBS Practitioner but interested in applying?

Many practitioners are deeply passionate about supporting people with disability to live meaningful and fulfilling lives. However, navigating the pathway into Positive Behaviour Support can often feel overwhelming. The PBS Capability Framework and registration process can be difficult to interpret, and many practitioners are left unsure about where to begin or how to move forward with confidence.

The Waves PBS Mentorship Masterclass has been created to support practitioners who are looking for clarity, guidance, and a more human-centred approach to behaviour support practice.

This upcoming 4-week professional development program is designed to gently guide practitioners through the PBS pathway while sharing the Waves Safety & Connection First approach.

Our Approach

At Waves, we see behaviour through the lens of safety, regulation, and connection.

Rather than focusing on compliance-based models, our approach centres on understanding the person’s experiences, supporting emotional regulation, and creating environments where people feel safe, respected, and heard.

This philosophy informs everything we do, including how we approach assessment, formulation, and behaviour support planning.

Through this masterclass, we hope to share this perspective with practitioners who are seeking a more compassionate and person-centred way of practising PBS.

What You Will Explore

During the program, we will explore key areas of PBS practice, including:

Understanding the PBS Capability Framework
Develop a clearer understanding of the PBS pathway and how practitioners progress through the framework.

The Waves Safety & Connection First Methodology
Learn the principles behind the Waves approach and how safety and connection form the foundation of effective behaviour support.

Human-Centred Functional Behaviour Assessments
Explore how to gather meaningful information and develop formulation statements that reflect the person’s story and context.

Developing Behaviour Support Plans
Learn how to design behaviour support strategies that prioritise dignity, autonomy, and quality of life.
