WA's Leader in Neurodiversity-Affirming and Trauma-Informed Behaviour Support

At Waves WA, we provide Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) that is tailored to each individual. Our approach is practical, person-centred, and focuses on empowering you and your support network.

We can help with:

  • Developing Behaviour Support Plans
  • Implementing everyday strategies at home, school, work, and in the community
  • Building skills and confidence
  • Collaborating with support services
  • Meeting all NDIS requirements for restrictive practices, including legislative and regulatory compliance

What Makes Waves PBS Different

Positive Behaviour Support You Can Trust

We provide evidence-based strategies tailored to the individual, informed by both professional knowledge and lived experience.

Lived Experience That Matters

Led by neurodivergent parents raising children with disability, our team brings both personal insight and professional understanding to our work.

Kindness and Practical Support

We focus on realistic, day-to-day solutions and celebrate every win — big or small.

Flexible Scheduling

Life doesn’t fit into 9–5, so we offer appointments that work around your world.

Experience Across Different Journeys

We’ve supported people navigating corrective services, mental health systems, child protection, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and CALD communities.

A Team with Diverse Expertise

Our team includes autism specialists, educators, counsellors, psychologists, and researchers — combining practical understanding with evidence-based knowledge to meet your unique needs.

What the First Month With Waves Looks Like

Phase 1: Onboarding and Getting to Know You

The first few weeks focus on building a relationship and understanding your goals. Our initial session, called an “assessment,” is informal — we simply ask questions to get to know you, your preferences, and what’s important to you.

We will start creating your Support Plan and, if required, a Risk Assessment.

Face-to-Face Sessions

Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly, focusing on “being with” rather than “doing”. Our aim is to empower you and those around you, introducing strategies only after a relationship has been established.

Interim Behaviour Support Plan (IBSP)

If needed, we will create an IBSP around weeks 3–4. During this time, we may focus on training your support network so they can implement strategies confidently.

Phase 2: Continued Data Collection and Trialing Strategies

Once the relationship is established, sessions may move to a monthly schedule. We collect data through observation and Functional Behaviour Assessments to understand what strategies work best.

Phase 3: Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan

With gathered information, we create a Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan. Plans typically take:

Interim Plan: 10–15 hours

Comprehensive Plan: ~20 hours

These include in-depth details about your preferences, strengths, sensory needs, and guidance for those around you. Following the plan, we provide training for your support team to ensure confident implementation.

Phase 4: Maintenance, Updates, and 12-Month Review

After plans are in place, support may be less frequent, focusing on monitoring, reviewing, and updating the plan. Feedback is encouraged to ensure it remains person-centred and effective. End-of-Plan Reports are completed several weeks before your NDIS Plan ends.

Supporting Therapeutic Needs Beyond PBS

If you are engaging with us as Therapeutic Supports:

  • Initial sessions are similar, focusing on understanding goals and developing support plans.
  • We may work with your support network and other therapists to embed strategies.
  • We cannot include restrictive practices in these plans but can provide evidence or letters of support if Specialist Behaviour Intervention is recommended.
  • End-of-Plan Reports are also completed to summarise engagement and provide recommendations.
