For Referrers
At Waves WA, we understand that referring someone for Positive Behaviour Support or therapeutic services is a big responsibility. You want to know that the person you refer will receive high-quality, person-centred support that is safe, evidence-based, and effective.
We partner with schools, allied health providers, social workers, and other professionals to ensure participants receive the right support at the right time. Our team brings both lived experience and professional expertise, creating a unique perspective that enhances the outcomes of every referral.
Why Refer to Waves WA?
Referring someone to Waves WA means connecting them with a team that combines evidence-based practice with lived experience. Our Positive Behaviour Support is tailored to each individual, ensuring practical strategies that respect and empower the person, rather than trying to change them. Our team brings diverse expertise, including autism specialists, educators, counsellors, psychologists, and researchers, all committed to improving participants’ quality of life.
We are neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed, using approaches that focus on supporting environments and relationships, and we collaborate closely with families and existing support networks to build capacity and ensure strategies are implemented effectively. We are also culturally responsive, working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, CALD communities, and all families. Referring to Waves WA gives you confidence that the participant will receive thoughtful, flexible, and high-quality support designed to achieve meaningful outcomes.
What Happens After a Referral?
- Initial Contact: We connect with the participant and family to explain the process and gather information about their goals, preferences, and needs.
- Assessment & Planning: We conduct an informal, person-centred assessment to understand the individual, then develop an Interim or Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan as needed.
- Implementation & Training: We work with the participant’s support network to implement strategies effectively, providing guidance, coaching, and practical tools.
- Ongoing Review: We continue to monitor progress, adjust strategies, and provide updates to ensure the support remains effective and responsive.
We aim to make the referral process as smooth and collaborative as possible. We provide timely updates, clear documentation, and are always available to answer questions. Our goal is to support you in achieving the best outcomes for your participants.
